Marymere Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest. The falls are located in Olympic National Park and are located super close to other must-see sights in the park. It’s one of the most popular places to visit in the summer, yet also one of the most peaceful, especially in the winter. The greens are lush and vibrant while the waterfall is at its peak. This is why I wanted to share this Marymere Falls elopement I photographed with you, in hopes that it will get you inspired and ready to start planning your very own waterfall elopement in Olympic (maybe one at Marymere Falls?).
Jannet and James reached out to me a month before their elopement date, hoping I was available for their January 15th date. When they first inquired, they were torn between having their ceremony in Sonoma, California or Washington State. After hearing more about their vision of wanting dramatic landscapes and lots of greenery, I knew Olympic National Park would be the perfect place for them.
It’s not very often that couples want to elope during the winter months, but it’s a season that I think is extremely underrated for elopements, especially for elopements in the Pacific Northwest.
I got started with planning right away, creating a location list with some of my most favorite hidden gems in the park. Ultimately, Jannet and James decided on a small hiking adventure to Marymere Falls, followed by an intimate ceremony at Lake Crescent, and then ending the day with cake and champagne.
I met the couple at Emerald Valley Inn, a quaint cottage-styled inn located off Highway 101 just outside Port Angeles. Tucked behind the trees, this inn was one the cutest places I’ve ever been to. I now recommend it to all my couples. Around the property were meadows, dense forest trails, and even a small zoo with goats, chickens, cats, and birds.
After getting ready, we headed to a meadow on the property for Jannet and James to have a first look. The fog covered the pine trees, dew still on the ground from the chilly morning. The couple embraced each other amongst the trees before we set out for our first adventure of the day.
We drove to Marymere Falls where we hiked the 1.7 mile loop, stopping for pictures in the lush green forest and among the famous bridges along the trail. When we reached the base of the falls, we were all surprised at just how empty it was. We explored some more of the forest before heading to the lake for their ceremony.
When we pulled up to the parking lot, I was shocked. There wasn’t a single soul around, something that rarely happens at a place as popular as this. Jannet and James had the entire dock and lake to themselves. The ceremony was short and sweet. You could tell just how excited and in love these two were, ready to start their lives as one.
After the ceremony, we ended the day with a cake Jannet made (she used to be a baker), and an epic champagne toast.
Laughs were had, hugs were exchanged, and many happy tears were shared. This is one of those elopements I’ll never forget, and I can’t wait to photograph the next couple who decides to exchange their vows or explore a place as special as Marymere Falls.

You? You’re the kind of person that gets a lil’ teary eyed looking at an epic view…
That moment when you turn to the person youโre with and ask, โAre you seeing this?โ I live for it. Places with trees and mountains and soft breezes that make you say, โI canโt believe this place exists,โ I spend pretty much all of my free time searching for and exploring them.
These places have always felt like home to me. And if youโre the kind of person who also feels more at home surrounded by trees than by people? Then weโll get along really well. The Pacific Northwest is full of secret spots that are too special to share with just anyone. But it would make me happy to share them with you on your wedding day.
If the mountains/beaches/redwood forests are calling your name, go aheadโฆ
(I promise you wonโt regret it.)
