Fun fact: Ecola State Park is one of the best places to elope in Oregon, according to, wellโฆ me. Iโve been photographing elopements all over the Pacific Northwest for the past 7 years, and this spot is easily at the top of my list.
Youโve got ocean views, cliffs, forest trails, and easy beach access all in one place. Plus Roosevelt elk, wildflowers, and even lighthouses. Thereโs a lot here, which is amazing, but it can also feel like a lot to plan.
Thatโs exactly why I put together this Ecola State Park elopement guide. I break down everything you need to know, including permits, best locations, timing, and what to expect, so you can plan your day without the stress.

4 Best Places to Elope in Ecola State Park
Whether you want a beach, a forest, or an ocean overlook, Ecola State Park has it all.
Iโve explored every corner of the park, and these are the 4 spots Iโd recommend if you want the best possible experience for your elopement.
Considering other locations in Oregon? You’ll love my list of the 15 most stunning places to elope in Oregon.
1. Ecola Point Viewpoint

Ecola Point Viewpoint is by far one of the most popular places for ceremonies, pictures, and picnics. It’s super accessible, has incredible views of Indian Beach, and there’s so much room for guests! There are lots of little trails that lead to different overlooks, though the main overlook pictured above is usually the favorite. I personally prefer the large meadow for ceremonies with a bit more privacy.
The only downside to this location is that it does tend to get busy mid-day. However, like I mentioned above, the meadow in this area is a great choice to avoid some of the crowds you’ll find along the overlook and other trails.
2. Indian Beach

Indian Beach is the second most popular location in Ecola State Park. Not only is the beach absolutely stunning, but it’s a popular stop for Twilight fans. Why? Believe it or not, but Indian Beach was actually the beach they used in the La Push scene. Seriously!
Aside from its fun Twilight lore, Indian Beach has some of the best tide pooling in the state. Visit in the morning to watch the surfers, stay out late to build a bonfire, or visit mid-day and hike one of the many trails around the beach. You don’t have to hike to reach it and there’s plenty of room for elopements of all sizes.
3. Clatsop Loop Trail

If you’re more of a forest kind of couple, the Clatsop Loop Trail is the best forest trail in the park, and it also happens to be one of the least busy places for a ceremony compared to the other locations on this list.
The entire trail is about 3 miles and ends with a killer view of the Pacific Ocean, but most couples don’t hike the entire thing. In fact, you don’t even need to walk a mile to find an amazing ceremony location surrounded by mossy Sitka spruces and ferns galore. The trail isn’t very wide, so I don’t usually recommend elopements with guests here.
4. Crescent Beach

If you love the look of Indian Beach but aren’t a big fan of the crowds, I recommend checking out Crescent Beach instead. Granted, you do have to walk a little over a mile to reach it, but that just means a much more secluded area for a ceremony. Plus, the hike there is through a forest giving you 2 locations in 1.
This beach is located smack dab in the middle of Cannon Beach and Indian Beach so you really do get the best of both worlds here.

Do You Need a Permit to Elope in Ecola State Park?
Nope! You only need a permit if you’ll be having a wedding with over 50 people at which point you’d apply for a permit through the state park website.
Parking Pass
While you don’t need a permit, you will need a parking pass. These can be purchased in the parking lot and cost $10 for Oregon residents or $12 for out-of-state visitors.

When to Elope in Ecola State Park
Ecola State Park is beautiful year-round, but the experience can change a lot depending on the season, weather, and crowds. Hereโs what to expect so you can pick the best time for your elopement.
Spring (MarchโMay)
Spring is a bit of a wildcard. Youโll get gorgeous greens, wildflowers, and fewer crowds than summer. The downside is unpredictable weather. Expect rain, fog, and occasional clear days.
Best for: Fewer people, overcast weather
Heads up: Wet trails and last-minute weather changes
Summer (JuneโSeptember)
This is the most popular time to elope here. Youโre more likely to get clear skies, warmer temps, and longer days. Everything is accessible and trails are mud-free, but it comes with more crowds, especially mid-day and on weekends.
Best for: Reliable weather, golden sunsets
Heads up: Parking fills up fast, popular spots get busy
Fall (OctoberโNovember)
Fall is super underrated. You still get some nice weather early in the season, plus fewer crowds and a chance at seeing some elk. You won’t see a ton of fall colors, but lighting is typically more even this time of year.
Best for: Fewer crowds, overcast weather
Heads up: Shorter days and increasing rain later in the season
Winter (DecemberโFebruary)
Winter is for couples who donโt mind a little rain. It’s the time of year to elope to see empty beaches and overlooks. It can be incredibly beautiful, but also cold, windy, and wet. And if you’re hiking one of the trails, your shoes will get muddy.
Best for: No crowds
Heads up: Weather can be rainy, roads may close

Where to Stay When Eloping in Ecola State Park
When it comes to where to stay, youโve got three main options: Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Astoria. Each one is pretty different, so it really depends on what kind of experience you want for your elopement.
Cannon Beach (Best Overall)
Cannon Beach is hands down the best place to stay if you want to be as close to the park as possible. Itโs just a few minutes from Ecola State Park, which makes getting to your ceremony spot super easy.
Youโll also have the best selection of places to stay, from oceanfront hotels to cozy inns and private beach rentals. Thereโs a lot to do in the area, including exploring the famous Cannon Beach itself
Seaside
Seaside is about 10โ15 minutes away and usually more affordable. Itโs a little less scenic than Cannon Beach, but itโs a solid option if youโre trying to keep costs down or need more availability.
Astoria
Astoria is about 25โ30 minutes north of the park and has a completely different kind of scenery. Think historic buildings, river views, and a more local vibe.
Itโs a great option if you want something a little different or are again, looking for more budget-friendly stays than what you’d find in Cannon Beach.

You? You’re the kind of person that gets a lil’ teary eyed looking at an epic view…
That moment when you turn to the person youโre with and ask, โAre you seeing this?โ I live for it. Places with trees and mountains and soft breezes that make you say, โI canโt believe this place exists,โ I spend pretty much all of my free time searching for and exploring them.
These places have always felt like home to me. And if youโre the kind of person who also feels more at home surrounded by trees than by people? Then weโll get along really well. The Pacific Northwest is full of secret spots that are too special to share with just anyone. But it would make me happy to share them with you on your wedding day.
If the mountains/beaches/redwood forests are calling your name, go aheadโฆ
(I promise you wonโt regret it.)
